Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action (RCA8)

This course is designed to improve the problem-solving skills of all employee levels in any industry – from health care and finance to human services and manufacturing – by providing an understanding of the processes and techniques for root cause analysis and effective corrective action.

Topics covered include:

• How to use corrective action to reduce costs and increase profits
• Using corrective action as a business tool, and not just a quality tool
• Identifying the problem
• Containment and remedial action
• Determining root cause
• Causes vs. symptoms
• Generating corrective action
• Implementing actions
• Following up to verify effectiveness
• Tools and techniques that make the process simple yet effective

Concepts are reinforced through group workshop exercises.

Hours: 8

• Create a problem statement
• Analyze the root cause of the problem
• Develop a corrective action plan to prevent the problem from recurring

Range of positions at any type of organization, from shop floor employees to executives

Identification of one actual problem to present in class, with knowledge gathered about what happened, by whom, and why

Peter Baumgartner, a Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, is UB TCIE’s Operational Excellence Director. As a resident expert in Lean Six Sigma, he has delivered substantial, validated hard savings across a variety of projects in such industries as manufacturing, medical devices, building materials, publishing, finance, IT, food service and automotive.
