Manufacturing Safety

Successful manufacturing operations depend on workers who are not only skilled, but possess a safety mindset. This course provides participants with an understanding of safety hazards and safety-enhancing workplace practices, plus the opportunity to earn two nationally recognized safety credentials. It is appropriate for all employees working in a manufacturing setting, and serves as a tool for employers to keep employees healthy and productive by strengthening their company’s safety culture.

The 32-hour training combines materials from the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) that are focused on manufacturing-specific safety issues, with more prescriptive content from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Outreach Training Program. The curriculum explores unsafe conditions, as well as the processes and procedures that rectify them and create a safer work environment. Participants complete MSSC’s online-based safety module and attend a classroom-based OSHA-authorized portion that features lectures, videos, and hands-on group exercises.

A sampling of safety topics include:

  • Intro to OSHA
  • Emergency action and fire protection plans
  • Electrical hazards
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Hazard communication
  • Materials handling
  • Ergonomics

Upon successfully passing an MSSC exam and OSHA-authorized classroom activities, participants will receive:

  • A Safety Certificate from MSSC
  • An OSHA Outreach Training 10-hour course completion certificate
  • An OSHA 10-hour General Industry card
